Lol. Sure. That works. I have a few different phds but these days I'm a xenobiologist. I study aliens. Which sounds crazy I know but they're a real thing where I'm from. Gonna guess thats not the case for you. It's not for most people I've met here. I could show you sometime. Ive got some tattoos of them.
Uhhh sort of? The Null seem more like AI but they remind me of Kaiju a lil bit. Like the whole we are legion thing is pretty much the Kaiju's schtick too. Definitely. Here's a teaser trailer. ;)
Hehe. Thanks. A couple reasons. Most people where I'm from are terrified of Kaiju. And like with good reason? They're trying to exterminate humankind after all. The fears rational. But they're also the most complex living beings we've ever encountered. We'd be remiss to neglect that. They're scary as hell yeah but they're also awesome. Like supremely awesome. Anyway the tats also look awesome. Lol. Too many people expect some stodgy uptight nerd when they hear my creds before they meet me. You have any tattoos?
[ There's a pause while she starts to type out her story. ]
Back when my grandparents were very very young, there was a civil war. It was the people against the government and eventually the people lost. They signed a treaty and as part of that treaty every district had to offer two children every year in tribute to the Capitol. The children would be forced to fight to the death until only one remained. When I was 18, I was the the winner.
When you win, you get a big house and enough money to take of your family and never work again. But sometimes the President decides that you owe him more than what you've already given and if you don't do what he says then he'll kill everyone you love. He decided that I could contribute best to our country by keeping his wealthy friends company, and that meant other people go to decide what i looked like for the next decade of my life.
Hold on like company as in uhhh. You know. "Escort"? Thats messed up man. The whole thing not just the last part. How many districts are there? Wait and you like killed other kids? Jesus. Sorry about your luck. Or I guess you kinda lucked out since you survived and all. Why did your district pick you to go? Did you get to vote or anything?
[He has a lot of probably rude questions, but look, she offered?]
[ she's not surprised by the barrage of questions. who wouldn't have questions? ] Yes, an escort. And yes, it was all messed up.
There were 13 districts but the Capitol bombed one, and then there were 12. But some people from home told me 13 was still there, they were just hiding.
Every district picks in a different way. Most of them draw names. I volunteered because my brother won the year before I did. We're twins. I didn't want to be separated and I was pretty sure I could win. I was right.
Whoa. What kind of sense does that make? A country bombing itself? Sounds like stuff is pretty bad where youre from. I can relate but not really in that way. The Kaiju invasion has led to more of a banding together sort of situation than what you're talking about. Wait so you like signed up? Thats uh also pretty messed up. No offense. Why would you have been separated? I thought him winning wouldve meant you all had a big house to live in and stuff.
A country bombing itself is one of the reasons why we call it the Dark Days.
[ Cashmere finds his honesty amusing. volunteering for the Games is messed it. what else can be said about it? ]
Well it isn't the smartest thing I've done and my brother was mad about it, so you're right about that.
Not physically separated. Maybe physically separated. It was more emotionally that I was worried about. He was like a different person when he came back after winning. I didn't want to grow apart.
Hm. I guess I get your logic but thats a pretty massive risk considering you both would've had different experiences anyway. That's some intense love for your bro that youve got there if nothing else. That's cool. How long have you been in Hadriel? Has anyone from your world ever shown up here? Also wait so did you get two big houses and stuff when you won?
TWO YEARS?? Holy crap. That's an insanely long time. That sucks. I'm sorry. Hey here's a question if your brother showed up here would you be happy about it? Or no because it'd mean he was trapped too?

Thank you! I'm glad you understand.
You can call me Cash. Most people here do.

Aliens? Like the Null? We don't have aliens at home. Or if we do they took one look and decided to leave us alone.
I think you'll have to show me yours.

Definitely. Here's a teaser trailer. ;)
